Àfrica, veus i mirades
MARIA ROSA OBIOLS
Published in March 2005 in Catalan
Maria Rosa Obiols was born in Barcelona and has lived in Mexico and the USA. In the United States she did her doctorate at the University of Southern California specializing in African literature. She published articles, organized literary recitations and arranged didactical videos concerning intercultural issues. In 1987 she published “Los Ángeles” (collection ‘Las Ciudades’ in Destino Publishing House). Presently she works as a teacher in the secondary school IES Ernest Lluch and collaborates with the NGO ‘Aigua per al Sahel’.
“I really think that the work of Maria Rosa Obiols, and the book that will be published today, can stimulate, once given to teachers and educators, intercultural relations much more than other media projects. NGOs as well should remember that jsut paying attention to economic issues without getting to know societies as they are, culturally spoken, is like stepping just the half way. Sincerely, without the media ballyhoo just mentioned, Maria Rosa Obiols permits us to discover the diversity of her views and voices, from ones and others, from here and there; some voices and views helping us to obtain a better understanding for the different, some voices and views inviting us to go even further and encouraging us to discover the African world on our own.”
